The Medical Simulation Laboratory was completed to provide the University’s Nursing Department Simulated Lab Program (SIMS) with a state-of-art health care facility to train nursing students in near-real life conditions. The project included hospital environments of NICU, Pediatrics, Psych/Mental Health, Adult Care, Human Performance, LDRP, and Nursing Station. The project also included offices, debriefing rooms, control rooms, secure storage, bathrooms, laundry, and mechanical space. The advanced data system and control systems allow off-site students and teaching staff to view and control simulations.
A full-building medical gas vacuum and oxygen system was installed as part of the project. This included medical gas zone valves and alarm systems. The existing building structure was a primary challenge, as the existing wood-framed truss system complicated the installation of the hospital-grade mechanical and electrical systems that were vital to the facility.
