Choptank Community Health – Chestertown Renovation

This 2-phase, occupied renovation for local community health provider Choptank Community Health System, Inc was a much-needed update to the building and systems to support the services they offer. This challenging renovation included demolition of the existing finishes, partitions, and structurally deficient areas. Selective demolition of MEP systems was also included, and required that the geo-thermal HVAC be maintained in service, while being expanded to serve the renovated areas. The extensive and complex structural upgrades and shore were all performed by Harper & Sons, Inc staff. The finishes and partitions were replaced throughout the building, and all spaced refreshed. A new dental wing was created inside of the existing building. Rooftop work included structural bar joist modifications, new penetrations, roof patching, and HVAC units to be set.

The building included pediatric and adult exam rooms, medical gas systems, dental exam rooms for adults and children, and staff support, meeting, and provider offices.

The unique entryways to the space required off-hours work, multiple stages of temporary partitions, and mini-phases to be completed to keep the facility in operation at all times during the renovation.

The project is an excellent example collaboration and teamwork between Choptank Community Health System and Harper & Sons Inc to bring a difficult renovation to a successful completion without a day lost to the patient services.
